| When we first looked into having our hair locked we were shocked to find that all the waxes and treatments on the market were made from harsh chemicals or petroleum products. There was nothing made from natural vegetable or organic ingredients alone. We tried some of those awful, expensive concoctions that come from the U.S. and decided to make our own. After a lot of experimentation we came up with a recipe for locking wax that actually works. It's made from natural beeswax, hemp seed oil, kelp extract, sage extract and sage oil.
First of all get yourself a double boiler- that is a cooking pot that fits inside a slightly larger one. In the larger pot boil up some water. In the smaller cooking pot place the beeswax and hemp seed oil. The proportion should be about seven parts wax to one part hemp seed oil. You can use other vegetable oils but in our experience hemp seed oil doesn't moisturise the hair roo much and soaks in to the locks without leaving any residue on the outside. As the water boils place the smaller cooking pot inside the larger one, stirring the wax and oil until the wax has completely melted. Then add the other ingredients. One part kelp extract, one part sage and a few drops of sage oil for every 100 grams of finished product. Do not allow the mixture to boil or begin to smoke. Pour out into containers and allow to cool and solidify before use. The consistency of the final product should be like hard chocolate. It should melt fairly easily when rubbed in the palm of your hand so that it penetrates deep into the locks. |
