Tips and Tricks

Care of your locks

Newly locked hair need to be carefully cared for. Don’t wash your hair for at least two days afterwards. A week if you can stand it. You should sleep with a cute little night cap on for the first month or so.

The cut off tip of a stocking is good for that.  There are two reasons to do this. One is to keep the locks neat and separate, as new locks that are not settled in will be inclined to lock together at the roots while you are sleeping, instead of staying the separate locks you want them to be. Also as you will be waxing quite regularly at this stage and the night hat protects your pillow and bedding from receiving a lovely fine coat of wax.

Devote as much time as you can to working on your newly formed locks as work done now saves time later and its more fun to be a Director then a Trouble-shooter. Think of your locks as a child: the first part of their life are the formative years, and so they need special attention to set them up for life.

Wax them about once a week for the first month, the gradually cut down over time as seems right until you are waxing them about once every three months by about year two. The amount of wax you need really depends on your hair type though, so see what suits you best.
